Gritted Bread


2 cups of corn meal                 
Buttermilk
Fresh corn on the cob, grated        
1 tsp baking powder
¼ cup plain flour                      
1 tsp. salt
¼ tsp. soda                             
1 egg (optional)

Mix ingredients with enough buttermilk to make a batter.
Have bacon dripping in iron skillet very hot.
Pour batter into hot skillet and bake in fast oven until golden brown and crisp.
