Fruit Cake Cookies

½ Cup Crisco                                      1 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Egg                                                ¼ Cup Buttermilk
2 Cups Self- Rising Flour                              ½ tsp. Salt
1 Cup Chopped Pecans or Walnuts         1 Cup Dates, chopped
1 Cup Candied Cherries

  • Mix Crisco, Brown Sugar, and egg together.
  • Add Buttermilk.
  • Sift dry ingredients together and add to other mixture.
  • Add pecans, cherries, and dates.
  • Chill dough for 1 hour.
  • Drop by teaspoon full onto lightly greased baking sheet.
  • Top each cookie with a pecan and half a cherry.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes @ 375
  • Makes about 4 dozen cookies
