- Clean and wash turkey, dry.
- Place 2 sticks of butter inside turkey.
- Oil the outside of the turkey
- Try adding a peeled, cored apple and carrot and celery sticks to main cavity. Also sprinkle turkey with oil, salt, pepper and sage.
- Cover with foil, wrap one end tight, but leave the other end loosely, do not leave a steam hole.
- Bake on 275 for about 7-8 hours,
- THIS IS THE TIME TO DRAIN DRIPPINGS, if you don’t, they will cook away.
- Drain the drippings and wrap up again with foil.
- Bake at 350 for about 1 hour.
- Remove aluminum foil, baste with melted butter
- Cook for another hour (You want the outside to be golden)
Use two large pieces of heavy duty aluminum foil
One going lengthwise and the other going side to side
Add foil to basting pan first, then place turkey in roaster
Wrap turkey in foil
Put the lid on basting pan too.
